Audio Warehouse and D R Horton Homes have teamed up to design, build and install a large theater for the children and families of MUSC and its transplant center.
Russ Pritchard of Audio Warehouse met with Vanessa Hill the liaison for the MUSC Transplant Center just over a year ago when he introduced the idea of Children’s Theater. Vanessa is credited as the one who made this project a reality for the Children of MUSC. She was responsible for acquiring the room which now is referred to fondly as the “Room of Magic”. Her dedication and hard work has remained true through out this project, her dedication to the children and families of the MUSC Transplant Center and Children’s Hospital make her a very special person involved in this project.
Russ Pritchard, President of Audio Warehouse for the past 17 years and James Geiger a Senior Designer for Audio Warehouse have led there companies participating staff members as the Creator, Designer and Engineers for this project. They have chosen only the best products available in the market today in order to create this room of magic. Russ has met with a MUSC committee which was assembled of various department leaders on a weekly basis over the past year to assure proper procedure and compliance to policies and safety guidelines of MUSC. There support and guidance has proven to be most valuable and there effort and participation has not only made this project a success it was above and beyond the call of duty.
Brian Gardner, president of D R Horton Homes and its divisions for Charleston, Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach have joined in a major role in renovating the existing space generously provided by MUSC for this wonderful venue. Construction Manager Mike Ivy has lead staff and subcontractors through the process of refinishing walls and ceilings. Removing old chairs and carpet to refinish and paint floors. They have built a special area allowing expanded handicap access for special patients. Work has included framing of stage wall to house speaker system and 20 foot screen in addition to providing and installing new carpet. Without the help of D R Horton Homes this project would not have been possible.
Electronic Manufacturing Partners AMX Netlinx Control System allows Audio Warehouse technicians and programmers to operate and service the systems electronics from anywhere with an internet connection. Its View Point Touch Screens allow system control from anywhere within the Theater.
Cinepro The Power Controller 120 has been used to clean and regulate A/C power to all electronics which not only protects equipment for power fluctuations it offers sequenced turn on capability for source equipment and amplification.
Escient The Power Play system is a 300 DVD storage changer/player that will hold 300 children’s movies which allows one to browse titles and select movies to be played upon command by patients and there families through an easy use on screen menu.

Community Supporters ASCEND Foundation ASCEND (Anne Scandalios Cancer Ends Now Directive) is a Cancer prevention and education group who is developing a national campaign to educate and raise the awareness of alarming cancer trends in our country. Their Board of Directors and Volunteers have agreed to help man the monthly “Tuesday Night at the Movies” event for the coming year.
DuoComm Media DuoComm is a locally owned and operated firm specializing in electronic media commerce and marketing. Owners Sherry Crawford, Kim Murdaugh, and Berry Rudisill are responsible for creating, maintaining and hosting the “Room of Magic” website.
Ken French Ken is the General Manager of 98 Rock and Cool 105. He is very active with local and national charities. His support has been tremendous through his personal and professional efforts to help raise the much-needed funds to make the goals of this project achievable.
JET Flooring Jim Thorne and staff have furnished the labor and materials to refinish the hard wood flooring located on the main stage.
Jack Sheffield Having committed his personal resources has provided all the needed signage, banners and table top tents used to identify and promote the “Room of Magic” project.
Ci Ci’s Pizza This organization has proven to be community business leader when it comes to embracing a cause and offering support. They have promoted a recent fundraiser specifically to help fund the theater chairs needed and have committed to future promotions supporting the “Room of Magic”. Great job and keep up the good work!
Media Partners WCSC Channel 5 was the first media sponsor to support the “Room of Magic” through the generosity of its station manager Rita O’Neil. They kicked the media campaign by producing and running commercials to help sell theater chairs and have provided interviews along with news coverage raising public awareness of our project.
Cool 105 & 98 Rock As the most dedicated radio partner and with the guidance of General Manager Ken French, they have produced and provided interviews and commercials for both of their stations and any other station willing to offer there support. They have generously given airtime for running the ads and have proven to be a major supporter in our efforts.
Charleston Magazine Darcy Strickland, the magazines editor has included articles promoting the sale of theater chairs and will be covering the Grand Opening Celebrations for the “Room of Magic” in upcoming editions.
